This health precinct draws directly from the wallum heathlands of Sunshine Coast and translates that landscape into material, light, and atmosphere.
Rather than referencing nature as a theme, the interior expresses it through proportion, texture, and tone. Light is softened and natural. Materials are grounded and tactile. The overall effect is calm, considered, and consistent.

A Place That Has Always Been Known
Sippy Downs Health Precinct acknowledges the Gubbi Gubbi and Kabi Kabi people as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which this hospital stands. We pay our respects to Elders past, present, and emerging, and recognise their enduring connection to Country, sky, and waterways.
This health precinct stands on Gubbi Gubbi and Kabi Kabi Country.
The Gubbi Gubbi people are the Traditional Custodians of the Sunshine Coast, whose ancestors have lived on and cared for this Country for at least 30,000 years. In June 2024, the Federal Court formally recognised Kabi Kabi native title over the Sunshine Coast – an acknowledgement of a connection to this land that has always existed and will always endure.
The word wallum itself is Kabi Kabi language. The names carried through this building – the floors, the sections, the botanical references woven through the design – are offered as a small act of recognition of that deep knowledge and language, and the landscape it has always described.

Sippy Downs sits at a particular kind of crossroads. Carved out of subtropical hinterland, built alongside a university, and populated by people who chose to come here for the space, the lifestyle, and a community that feels like one.
The Sunshine Coast is one of Australia’s fastest-growing regions, and Sippy Downs is at the heart of that growth. The people who live here have historically had to travel significant distances for day surgery and procedural care.
